Musquodoboit Valley Rifle & Revolver Club

 Quarterly Meeting

Called to order on June 13/10 at 2pm

By Secretary Adam Dillman

Minutes from last quarterly accepted by the membership and put into record.

Treasurer: Reviewed financial report, which leaves the club with a balance of $20 483.77 (yet to be verified by bank balance). The current Financial Statement will be available with the upcoming Lock Stock and Barrel.

Tom Gill moved & Robert MacDonald sec. and report was accepted into record.

President Proposals:

(1)           Proposed to extend the berm from the horseshoe pistol range to the 200meter berm and increase the height to 8 feet for safety reasons.

(2)            Add materials to any existing berms that are below height requirements.

(3)           Extend Pistol 2 side berms to provide coverage from 100meter firing point.

(4)           To get the materials for these major upgrades we will get the materials from the area behind the clubhouse, this in turn will create a larger parking area.

A quote from Terry Cox to have this work completed was for $7 000.00. However this includes $1 500.00 of work previously approved by the membership, (Pistol 2 berm extended, sand berms at 50meter and 100meter range).

Dave Oickle moved & Tom Gill sec.

Voted and accepted by membership.

Peter wanted the membership in the future to consider building a two station skeet shooting range with two auto launchers to be purchased for this range, placing the range between the 400meter and the 200meter rifle ranges. An estimated cost would be approx. $2 000.00 with quotes presented to membership before approval.

$600 to be spent on two new clay launchers, any remaining portion to be used to repair damaged clay launchers for the club.

Moved by Robert MacDonald, sec. by Tom Gill.

Open discussion:

(1)           400meter range needs a lot of work to make it safe and usable. Peter is asking for a quote from local contractor, Terry Cox on finishing the machinery work on the range. It also needs approx. two overhead baffles and three side baffles. Now we can take our time to complete it, there is a growing interest in the use of the range by members.

(2)           Proposed Dave Oickle to contact Dept. of Highways and start the process of a new driveway permit, this new driveway would be at the far end of the parking area by the clubhouse. At present trucks are unable to enter our existing driveway. It would also allow easier maintenance of the portable toilet, Baird’s is unable to come in unless the drive is sanded in the winter. All that would be necessary is to start the driveway at the road limits once the permit was received. We can complete the driveway at a later date.

(3)           Adam to contact Mill Village Welding, to get swinging steel target on Pistol 2 range repaired do to the damage that has been done by the jacketed rifle bullets this is a safety issue which must be corrected immediately if it is to be used.

(4)           Work date Aug. 28th to also include Quarterly meeting at 2pm that same day.

(5)           Adam asked to have contact e-mails have MVRRC on the subject line. Adam will pass request on the absent Executive Member.

(6)           Again it was stressed to members to police their range to try to stop the shooting of materials and the damage being done. Rifles are still being used in the far pistol range. The Club now has to repair the swinging plates, which has been damaged by centre fire rifle. This is a cost to the club and as such a cost to all of us.

Meeting adjourned by Peter at 2:55 pm, written by Adam.
